Rayse walked into the precinct office of the Zygerus Circuit Security. She had been summoned to the office by her commanding officer, Commander Urether, for a new assignment and to meet her new partner. Rayse had been a beat cop, walking the streets of Zygerus in quadrant three, zone sixty-five, between Alsuria and Dearen, and Fodge and Hilkanz Streets in the suburb of Miltzenax.
“Hedridge Masblitz, CEO of Ihdris Enterprises?” Corialis asked the executive. “You’re coming with us. Now!”
Striding toward Corialis with his hands up, Masblitz said, “I am Hedridge Masblitz. Now, tell me what is the meaning of this? What do you want with me?”
“You are wanted for questioning,” Nize said stepping forward with his placators extended toward the rest of the seated executives. “You are required to come with us.”
“On whose authority?” another of the executives demanded as he rose from his seat.
“I suggest you sit down and mind your own business,” Nize ordered, training one of the placators at the objecting executive. “This does not concern you.”
“I’m sorry, but I don’t recognize your authority,” Masblitz said. “Security will be here momentarily. I suggest you leave now and save yourself some trouble.” The CEO was confident in his statement. He stepped toward Corialis.
Corialis activated his placator wand. It hummed to life. He waved it toward the executive. “If that is how you want to play it, Masblitz, I’ll be happy to accommodate you.” Corialis jabbed the placator into the executive’s ribs. He screamed momentarily and collapsed in a heap.
“Why the hell did you do that?” Nize demanded as he stepped toward his partner with a renewed heat burning within him. If they didn’t have this important mission to do, he would have placated Corialis and left him behind. He thrust the second placator handgun hard into Corialis’ chest, knocking the wind from his lungs. “Now I have to carry him. Cover me.”
Taking the handgun from NIze, Corialis swung the placator gun and wand back and forth as he tried to keep as many of the board members in the meeting hall within his firing arcs. Nize lifted the unconscious executive and slung him over his shoulder with little effort. With the placator in his free hand and the other holding on to their quarry, Nize backed out of the room and made his way toward the elevators in the foyer, leaving Corialis to hold the other executives back. With a healthy head start, Corialis backed out the meeting room and followed his partner once he was certain the other executives were not going to follow him out.
